Grand Rounds 3.31

Dr. Liana Hwang, a first-year family medicine resident, hosts this week’s Grand Rounds. She presents a unique twist to the weekly tradition by paralleling the solar system to the “medical blogging universe”. Planets and constellations each represent a particular subject. For instance, the Pluto category includes all submissions related to the recent Virginia Tech tragedy. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the constellation of corona borealis comprises the more light-hearted articles. As for On The Wards, our article about the recently published meta-analysis, examining the efficacy of chondroitin sulfate use for arthritis, was classified under Mercury. Mercury represents the “up-to-date, current information about scientific and technological happenings in the medical field.” That works.

This is Dr. Hwang’s first-time hosting Grand Rounds and she has done an excellent job!

Grand Rounds 3.27

Dr. Henochowicz (Associate Clinical Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine) of Medviews hosts this week’s Grand Rounds. The entries are divided into three categories: 1) Medical Thoughts; 2) Sociological, Observational and Personal Thoughts; and, 3) Policy Thoughts

The submission from On The Wards is featured in “Medical Thoughts” as follows:

On the Wards talks of the case of the false positive alcohol test that is sure to become a favorite with medical folks being pulled over for a potential DWI citation (but officer, I am on a very low calorie diet!).

Good job to Dr. Henochowicz for this week’s work!

Grand Rounds 3.25

Grand Rounds 3.25 is held this week at Scienceroll, a blog created by Hungarian medical student Bertalan Meskó. Bertalan has done a magnificent job categorizing the entries, while interspersing them with humorous yet relevant Monty Python video clips. On The Wards was present with the article on mobile phone use in hospitals.

I forgot to mention that On The Wards also had an article in last week’s Grand Rounds. That iteration was Grunt Doc’s fourth time hosting the weekly blog carnival. A new record!

Grand Rounds 2.21

The Valentine’s Day Edition of Grand Rounds (Vol. 2, No. 21) can be found at intueri. In keeping with the Valentine’s Day ambience, Maria creatively presents each article in the form of a “personal ad”. The On The Wards article on melatonin is listed as follows:

What can I do to make you sleep with me? Perhaps you can help cure me of my insomnia because melatonin won’t.

On a related note, I have decided to no longer feature each Grand Rounds as a separate blog entry. I feel this may be a redundant effort, as the majority of other medical blogs–some which you probably read–already announce the weekly [Tuesday] arrival of the Grand Rounds. I have nevertheless placed the Grand Rounds schedule as a link on the right-hand column of On The Wards for easy access.

Grand Rounds 2.20

This week, Grand Rounds (Vol 2. No. 20) is hosted at Science and Politics. There is a diversity of articles to read. Some categories include research, education, patient care, and of course, politics.

Grand Rounds 2.19

Grand Rounds Vol. 2 No. 19 has arrived and can be found at Barbados Butterfly. This is the first time that Barbados Butterfly has hosted the Grand Rounds series, and it has done a good job at presenting the material … with images, too.

Grand Rounds 2.18

This week’s iteration of Grand Rounds (Vol. 2, No. 18) is fresh off the press at Kevin, M.D. The exciting news is that it includes the first public appearance of On The Wards! Now the pressure is on to deliver more quality content. But for today, it’s time to celebrate.

Grand Rounds 2.17

The Grand Rounds series is a weekly summary of interesting posts throughout the medical blogosphere. Grand Rounds began in September 2004 at Blogborygmi and has since then been hosted by different blogs (archive). This week’s version is Vol. 2 No. 17, available at Grunt Doc.
